Traktor Nusantara (TRAKNUS) in instilling a culture of safety awareness, proactively initiates a series of preparedness activities to deal with various potential emergency situations. Padang branch in October has a valuable initiative, organizing simulations on the use of Light Fire Extinguishers (APAR) and Earthquake simulations. Administration Department Head (ADH) TRAKNUS Padang Branch Realdito Yasmin revealed “The implementation of this activity has an important purpose to ensure the readiness of workers in dealing with various emergency situations. This is part of the effort to build a strong and resilient safety culture in the work environment, by providing understanding in an effort to reduce the risk of work accidents and prevent the loss of productive working hours is a form of contribution to achieving the company's target of Zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) ”, he added.
The simulation of the use of fire extinguishers was held on October 21, 2024, beginning with a presentation to all participants regarding the procedures and basic techniques of PASS (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep). This technique is an APAR operation step which includes pulling the safety pin, directing the nozzle to the fire source, pressing the lever, and sweeping the spray to ensure the fire is under control. Afterwards, workers were given the opportunity to practice directly the use of fire extinguishers equipped with demonstration tools to extinguish fires in used drums.
Geographically, West Sumatra is located near the meeting of the major tectonic plates, namely the Indo-Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate, which is known as one of the earthquake-prone areas in Indonesia. As a positive response to the situation and conditions, the management of Padang Branch on October 28, 2024 conducted a simulation and practice of dealing with earthquakes, which was attended by all workers in Padang Branch. In order to make the activity more structured and easy to understand, the organizing committee first explained what preparations and actions should be taken during and after an earthquake occurs. This was followed by theoretical evacuation training scenarios and safety procedures. As a deepening of the material, participants were also taught techniques to take shelter in the office during an earthquake and knowledge of the evacuation path to the gathering point in a safe place.
Branch Operation Head (BOH) TRAKNUS Padang Branch Reza Andrey Rahmansyah emphasized the importance of workers understanding and having the skills and readiness to face emergency situations. “The implementation of the educational program through the simulation of the use of APAR and the earthquake simulation, we hope that workers in the Padang Branch are ready and skilled in practicing whenever, and what to do if an emergency situation occurs, so that the risk of accidents and their impact can be minimized,” he concluded.
